The Designers Edge 180-degree motion-activated outdoor two-light downward floodlight offers adjustable time and sensitivity settings. The motion sensing indoor security night light will turn on automatically when motion is detected or the light level is low. Perfect for hallways and entryways. The night light includes a safety back so the lamp cannot be touched during operation. The bulb is fully enclosed for safety. Note the bulb may flicker at certain light levels for a short period of time. This is a normal part of operation. The security night light measures 4 inches x 2 and three-eights inches x 2 inches.

Twin 150 watt quartz lights, heavy duty die cast metal shell. 2 level lighting, low-level accent light with adjustable timer, settings include off, 3 hour, 6 hour, and dusk to dawn, and full bright when motion is detected, for selected time of 1, 5, or 10 minutes. Automatically returns to dim mode after selected time. Automatic photocell deactivates unit in daylight to save energy. Pulse count technology reduces false sensing from wind and rain. Heath Zenith's SL-5512 bundles a motion sensor and a two-light halogen floodlight in a single package, but with a lot of extra features you don't see in similar setups.

Unlike most motion-activated security lights, this one features "pulse count" technology that reduces the number of times that lamps are triggered due to wind and rain. In addition, the "Dual Brite" feature allows you to use it for low-level accent lighting in addition to the full-light effect you get with motion-activation (an included timer allows you to set low-light mode for three hours, six hours, or dusk to dawn-an automatic photocell deactivates the unit in daylight). The unit also includes a selectable timer that lets you set the amount of time the lights stay on after motion stops. Alternatively, it includes a manual override that lets you turn the light on and off at will via an existing indoor switch.

The sensor has a range of up to 70 feet and detects motion in a wide 240-degree range with a maximum 21,000-square-foot detection zone. The detection range is adjustable, too, so you can make sure the floodlights don't go on every time a car drives by.

Motion-activated lights are very convenient, but they can be a little bulky and awkward to look at-in the driveway is fine, but you wouldn't want to put one on your porch. Heath Zenith's motion-activated porch lights are another story: the SL-4305 looks like an ordinary five-sided porch light.

The unit will detect motion in a 360-degree radius with up to 30-feet detection range. You can set the light timer to one, five, or ten minutes, and the sensor itself may be adjusted to give you more or less sensitivity (so it doesn't light up every time a car drives by). The weather-resistant brass construction means it's going to look good for a while, too.

If you're looking to save a little money on lighting your porch by installing a motion-detector, this is a great option that won't look out of place. Requires four candelabra bulbs of up to 25 watts each (not included).--Josh Dettweiler
