Top Handle, 120V, Jigsaw, Improved Blade Change 1Handed Blade Insertion & Ejection, Precision Control, 50% Straighter Cuts Than 1587AVSP, Tool Less Bevel Adjust For Quick & Accurate Bevel Cuts, 6.4A.
It's a funny thing about jigsaws; most of us tend to reach for another tool in its stead, having had less-than-great experiences with the little beasts.
But here comes Bosch's 1590, and it elevates the outcast jigsaw to the most-wanted list.
The first thing we liked about this saw is its heft; it's beefy, solid and made with that famous Swiss quality. You wrap your hand around the soft, substantial grip, squeeze the ample trigger and the soft-start whirs gently; with hardly any effort from you, the blade slices through whatever's ahead of it. Perhaps because it's heavier than most jigsaws, there's practically zero vibration, giving you a delightfully smooth, no-buzz experience, something pretty much unheard of in your average jigsaw.
Another nice feature is the speed mechanism: Set your maximum speed on the trigger dial, then control your speed up to that max by squeezing the trigger. On long cuts, you can lock the trigger on, too, and the blower actually does keep your cutline clear.
If that's all this saw had going for it, that would be enough for us. But coolest of all is the blade-change system that literally ejects the blade in a split second, takes the new one and gets you right back to your cutting - all tool-free. Amazing.
If you've relegated the jigsaw to the bottom of your toolbox, you owe it to yourself to give this one a chance. We think it's fantastic. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

About this Sawzall Model
The 11 amp Sawzall from Milwaukee is durable and super light -- weighing in at just 7 pounds, for the best power-to-weight ratio in its class. This small but tough saw offers a variable speed trigger that sends the blade from 0-2,800 strokes per minute, with a 3/4-inch stroke length and a Quik-Lok blade clamp for fast, tool-less blade changes.
The 6509-22 is chock full of convenience features that will make it a go-to pick that never gathers dust in your garage. Its rubber boot provides superior gripping for real control and exceptional accuracy, and the adjustable shoe gives you longer blade life and more cut control. You can even clamp the blades upside down for special cutting circumstances. Double insulated with a double-bearing wobble plate mechanism for smoother handling, this saw also boasts a heavy-duty 'S' jacket and an 8-foot, 2-wire cord.
This Sawzall uses standard 1/2-inch shank Sawzall blades, and two are included with this kit -- plus a carrying case to keep everything together and organized.
Applications
The 6509-22 is the perfect choice for any task that requires a reciprocating saw; and depending on your Sawzall blade choice, you'll find that it cuts easily through wood and plastics, metal, pipes, and even wood with nails in it.
Choosing a Sawzall Blade
When selecting a Sawzall blade, first consider your project. Each Sawzall blade style has a series of icons on its packaging -- and these icons demonstrate the materials which the blades are best-suited to cut. There's a separate icon for a variety of materials, including wood, plastics, wood with nails, and metal.
![]()
Next, decide on the proper blade shape to suit your project. Sloped blades are best for plunge cutting, straight blades are ideal for edge cutting, and scroll blades are used for cutting curved or circular shapes.
Finally, be sure to pick a blade with the proper Teeth Per Inch (TPI). See the chart below for more information.

Top Handle Jigsaw With 6.5A, 4 Stage Orbital Action, 3 Way Blade Clamping System Firmly Grasps T-Shank Blades, Lever Activated Blade Change System With Ejector, Variable Speed Control Dial, Adjustable Dust Blower & Tool-Less Foot Adjustment.
When we first heard of barrel grip jig saws, we were pretty skeptical about the comfort and control they could offer, since we were so accustomed to the typical top-handle design. It really was a genuine surprise to feel the difference. The control is amazing, and cutting scrollwork is an absolute delight with this saw, something we can't honestly say about most top-handle models. With this design, it almost feels as if the cutter is an extension of your hand, smooth and responsive. The blade-change system on this Bosch is among the best we've seen: They weren't kidding when they named it the One Touch Blade Change. We like the speed range, from 500 all the way up to 2,800 strokes per minute to handle whatever you need to cut, and the cutting line actually stays clean because of the integrated, adjustable blower (which, we have to say, works better at higher speeds). With the barrel design, there's no trigger; instead, the speed is controlled by a dial on the rear of the tool body. It's a tad clumsy at first when you're used to trigger-controlled speed, but it's a learning curve, and it's worth it.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Hitachi C10FSH 10-Inch Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Laser
from Hitachi
- Powerful 10-inch sliding dual compound miter saw with adjustable laser marker, electronic speed control, and soft start to reduce noise and recoil
- 12 amp motor; 3,800 rpm; 10 positive stops for quick settings; pivoting fence to support the work piece
- Stainless steel detent plate; carbide blade
- Includes saw, TCT saw blade, 10-millimeter box wrench, dust bag
- 20-3/4 by 41-1/2 by 24-1/4 inches; 43 pounds; 5-year warranty
Hitachi's redo of the well-built C10FS took a great saw and made it better. Laser cutting line? Done. Taller fence? Done. More legible scales? Done. The soft-start, belt-driven, 12-amp motor reduces vibration, and you get the same impeccably smooth ride on the slide that its predecessor offered, thanks to Hitachi's linear ball-bearing system. At a mere 44 pounds, it's a great contractor saw for job site work, trimming studs, crown molding, plywood, decorative veneer and hardboard, even aluminum sash materials--and unlike other saws, it bevels left and right. This Hitachi is dead-on accurate every time, with a smooth action and comfortable, secure grip. Our favorite update to this saw is undoubtedly the laser cutting line--who wouldn't want that? It's a little spendy for the average home woodworking hobbyist, but with tools, you really do get what you pay for.-- Kris Jensen-Van Heste
Choosing a Miter Saw
Miter saws are versatile tools that have become a mainstay of workshops everywhere. These powerful saws make angled cuts by pulling a circular blade down onto a workpiece with a short, controlled plunge. It might appear that miter saws are infinitely complex and varied, but there are only three general types. The type you choose will depend on your woodworking needs.
Basic Miter Saws
Basic miter saws are the least versatile off the three major variations, but they're a great starting point for novice do-it-yourselfers. These models typically adjust for miter cuts only, so consider upgrading if you need to do more than that.
Compound Miter Saws
Compound miter saws are easier to use than basic miter saws because you can place your stock flat for cutting, and they adjust simultaneously for miter and bevel cuts. A compound miter saw is great for jobs that feature stock that's not very tall or wide, such as door and window trim or picture frames.
Sliding Compound Miter Saws
Sliding compound miter saws are the most versatile of the available models. They have a motor and blade assembly that's mounted on a moveable arm to accommodate longer, wider workpieces. For smaller pieces, the saw performs like an ordinary fixed-head model. On some models, the blade can only pivot in one direction, but on a dual sliding compound miter saw, the blade can tilt to the right or left.
Important Features at a Glance
Though models will vary by manufacturer and design, these are a few of the more commonly found features that you might want to keep in mind.
- Electric brake: Reverses the flow of electricity when the saw's trigger is released. This is an important safety feature that slows the blade quickly in case of emergency.
- Blade guard: Most miter saws have self-retracting guards that withdraw when the saw is lowered for use, and reappear when it is raised.
- Laser guide: Gives a precise visual line where the cut will occur on your workpiece.
- Dust bag: Helps collect sawdust for a clearer, more tidy cutting area.
- Shaft lock: Immobilizes the shaft and blade for quicker, easier blade changes.
- Table extensions: Mount on either side of the saw to help balance longer workpieces.
Miter Saw Blades
Miter saw blades come in a variety of different sizes, grades, and materials, but there are three main types: steel, high-speed steel, and carbide-tipped blades.
- Steel: Inexpensive and good for cutting soft woods or plywoods. Sharpness diminishes quickly in tougher materials.
- High-Speed Steel: More rugged than steel blades, and great for cutting harder woods.
- Carbide-Tipped: More expensive than other blades but much more durable. Maintain sharpness over a longer period.

13A, 360°ree.Rotating Super Sawzall, Quik-Lok Blade Clamp, 0-3000 SPM, 1-1/4" Stroke Length, Counter Balanced For Smooth Operation, Gear Protecting Clutch, 10' 2 Wire Quik-Lok Cord, Includes Impact Resistant Carrying Case.
Since Milwaukee came up with the recip saw in the first place, we have very high expectations for every model they put out - and this one does Milwaukee proud.
At the heart of this saw is a rip-roaring 13-amp motor that does not hesitate no matter what you're cutting, whether it's studs or large diameter pipe. Despite the awesome power, it handles beautifully, with so little vibration it's remarkable, and the weight of the tool is balanced perfectly for minimal user fatigue. And in the interest of ergonomics, probably the best innovation on this saw is the handle. It rotates a full 360 degrees and locks in at 45-degree intervals, so you can adjust the angle to whatever odd situation you might find yourself in, and it saves tremendous strain on your body.
The speed control dial lets you set a range, and the trigger pressure gives you variable speeds within that range for absolute control. At full speed, you've got 3,000 strokes per minute with a 1-1/4-inch stroke length, and you can choose between orbital action, which gives you fast, aggressive cuts, or straight blade movement, which delivers a surprisingly fine cut.
We like Milwaukee's Quik-Lok blade clamp for fast, easy blade changes. And we love the flexibility of installing the blades with the teeth facing up or down, making your job even easier. Just twist the collar and insert the blade all the way in; release the collar and a spring-loaded mechanism locks the blade in place.
And talk about flexibility: Even the shoe adjusts, and without a tool. You can move it effortlessly both forward and backward into six positions, letting you use untouched parts of the blade for longer blade life, and it's great, too, in awkward positions.
